Recognizing Patient Experience Week

April 25-29th marks the recognition of Patient Experience Week. Launched in 2014 by The Beryl Institute, Patient Experience Week is meant to celebrate the impact that healthcare has on the lives of patients around the nation. Not only that, but also providing a time in which patients can express their needs and satisfaction in regard to their healthcare. With that, Patient Experience Week is a time for patients to act in the care they receive to make the most of the experience. In order to help you take care of yourself in a healthcare setting, we’re sharing a few tips in this post to do exactly that.

1. Take charge of your healthcare experience

The first step in making sure your patient experience is the best is to take charge of it. By taking that initiative to be involved in your healthcare, you’re making it easier for yourself to navigate. Some examples of taking charge would include scheduling and attending all necessary appointments, keeping tabs on the medications that you use, and being present during all appointment discussions. Doing these helps keep you involved in your care and ensures that you are aware of what treatments you’re receiving.

2. Pay attention to the space you’re in

When entering any healthcare facility, take note of the space you’re in. Do you feel welcomed upon entering? Does the facility have the necessities you require in order to feel comfortable during your visit? If anything feels out of place or uncomfortable, make sure to share that with the staff there. Finding ways to improve upon healthcare spaces is vital in ensuring that patients are comfortable and able to discuss their health in a welcoming environment.

3. Share your feedback

When you have the opportunity, sharing your feedback on your experience is a great way to be certain that your healthcare providers are accommodating you to the best of their ability. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or offer constructive criticism to them especially if it provides them the opportunity to improve upon the services they provide. Speaking in a respectful and informed manner will best help you out in this situation.

4. Stay up to date

Staying up to date on what is happening in the healthcare industry is a great way to ensure that you know how your needs as a patient are currently being met. Additionally, getting awareness in regard to any advancements or changes can be helpful when it comes to determining if the care you’re receiving is benefiting you or if you need to make changes.

Now that you’re equipped with this information, it’s time to make the most of this Patient Experience Week To learn more about how you can improve your experience with healthcare and stay up to date on any new healthcare changes in regard to telemedicine, sign up for our monthly email newsletter!
